Grey Owl Estates – Municipal Water Connection

Connection of the existing Grey Owl Estates public water system to the Onanole Public Water System to supply treated water to the 215 seasonal cabins.

Grey Owl Estates public water system was supplied from several wells within the development. The existing treatment systems in place did not meet the required drinking water treatment objectives and chlorine contact time. The system required upgrades to supply safe and reliable drinking water to the units. A feasibility study was completed to evaluate several options including construction of a new water treatment plan or connection to the existing Onanole Public Water System. The option selected was to connect to the Onanole Public Water System.

The Grey Owl Public Water System was connected to and supplied from the Onanole Public Water System. The connection was completed via horizontal directional drilling, including 210m of 200mm, 350m of 100mm, and 350m of 50mm HDPE watermain. Additionally, a heated building to house the meter set and double check valve was constructed. The project also included the splitting of the Grey Owl Estates water system into two pressure zones, one of which required the addition of a booster pump to provide adequate system pressure.

The project is one of many completed by BMCE in the area to connect to the Onanole Public Water system for the supply of fully treated potable water to the system. This provides a system that requires less capital to construct and reduces the system maintenance required by Grey Owl.
